Menands: Labor Day picnic, including Iraq war veteran speakers

Event Description :
The Solidarity Committee's Annual Labor Day Picnic, including two soldiers from Watertown's Fort Drum speaking at 2:30pm. The soldiers are members of the only active-duty chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War. This IVAW chapter, along with the Syracuse Peace Council, is organizing a region-wide demonstration in Syracuse against the war on September 29th, 2007. Attractions include:

- Short speeches and awards to local labor
- Environmental and peace activists
- Children's playground

Picnic organizers will provide free hamburgers, hot dogs (including vegetarian), trimmings, and cold and hot beverages... courtesy of the many unions are participating this year.

Cost: Free, although participants are asked to contribute a salad, main dish or snacks.
