Saratoga Springs: Rally against BP at Rep Murphy office

Date : 17 June 2010       From : 6:00pm    iCal Google Calendar
Category : Energy Location : 12866

Event Description :
"No Bailout for BP; We Need Clean Energy"

Part of a nationwide event calling for British Petroleum to clean up the Gulf of Mexico at their own expense, and Congress to reduce corporate influence on politics, and promote clean energy in the wake of this environmental disaster. This local demonstration will target Congressman Scott Murphy, to "... let him know we are counting on him to stand up for us, and stand up to Big Oil Lobbyists." is urging Congress to support legislation that would prevent a bailout of oil companies by taxpayers, and support strong campaign finance reforms.

The organizers wish to strees that Rep. Tonko, Sen. Schumer, and Sen. Gillibrand are all co-sponsors of the "Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act", but that Rep Murphy is not. The group is asking him to co-sponsor the bill. Additionally, Rep. Murphy, Rep. Tonko, and Sen. Gillibrand are co-sponsors of the "Fair Elections Now Act," and the group wants to thank Murphy for being involved in that.
